Moon Sweepers Building: Move Mode, Snapping and Refunds

Use Moon Sweepers 1.0.5 building controls to move structures, build on dust, align machines, check reachable belts and recover full building-piece prices.

Quick answer

In patch 1.0.5, equip the building tool and press R to pick up a piece with everything standing on it, then reposition it for free. Right-click puts it back if you cancel the move. You can build directly on dusty ground, and removing a building piece refunds its whole purchase price. Connected belts follow a moved piece only where they can reach.

Move a structure without buying it again

Move Mode lets you reposition an existing piece for free. With the building tool equipped, press R to pick up the piece together with everything standing on it. You can then place that assembly again without another purchase. Patch 1.0.5 Move Mode.

  1. Equip the building tool.
  2. Press R to pick up the piece you intend to move.
  3. Choose its new position, accounting for everything standing on it.
  4. Check the belts at its ports: they follow only where they can reach.
  5. Place the assembly again for free, or right-click to put it back instead.

The belt qualification matters when rearranging a working layout. The notes promise that belts follow within their reach, not that every connection can span any new position. Keep belt reach as a separate relocation check. Movement and belt reach.

Keep the Move Mode controls distinct

ActionDocumented control
Pick up a piece with the building toolR
Put the picked-up piece backRight-click
Switch from Move Mode to remove modeX
End Move ModeR or Esc
Enter Move Mode on a controllerY from remove mode

Returning a piece, leaving Move Mode and switching to removal are separate actions. Use right-click when your intention is to put the piece back. On a controller, the documented entry point is Y while already in remove mode. Move Mode controls.

Does relocation require demolition and repurchase?

No. Patch 1.0.5 explicitly allows free repositioning through Move Mode. If moving the piece is your goal, use that option rather than treating removal and another purchase as necessary. Free repositioning.

Build directly on dusty ground

Patch 1.0.5 allows every building piece to be placed on dust. Construction presses the underlying dust flat, removing the earlier need to clean the ground first. You can therefore start placement on dusty terrain without adding a cleaning pass as a prerequisite. Dusty-ground placement.

How do I build below or beside a foundation?

Aim at the foundation surface corresponding to the direction you want. The top supports building on it, the underside supports building beneath it, and a side supports building beside it. Pieces can also extend beyond an edge into the air. Foundation aiming.

Align machines to foundations

Aim at a foundation when placing a Stone Press or another machine. Machines align square to that foundation, flush with its edges or centered on it; other positions use a 0.5 m grid. The foundation you aim at is therefore the reference for the documented snapping behavior. Machine alignment.

Use the mouse wheel to rotate snapped machines in 90-degree steps. On hexagonal foundations, the rotation steps are 30 degrees. Press F when you want free placement instead of the snapped positioning. Machine placement controls.

Machines can span several foundations. Patch 1.0.3 specifically describes pressure chambers, stone presses and garages fitting on square foundations through this behavior. Do not assume a machine must fit entirely within one foundation piece. Multi-foundation placement.

Can I copy a piece's rotation and style?

Yes. In 1.0.5, middle-clicking an existing piece to pick it also copies its rotation and style. Use that documented action when repeating a placement style instead of recreating those settings manually. Piece copying.

Match rejected placements to the relevant fix

The developer reports several distinct placement corrections. Compare the rejected layout with the specific entry rather than treating every placement refusal as the same issue. Placement fixes.

Rejected placementDeveloper-reported fix
Foundation beside a rampFixed in 1.0.4
Machines snapped side by sideFixed in 1.0.4
Machine row wrongly rejected with “Keep the whole base on a flat foundation top”Fixed in 1.0.5

The last fix specifically includes rows of Stone Presses or other machines on foundations. That makes it relevant when a seemingly valid machine row receives the flat-foundation message. Machine-row rejection fix.

Understand refunds and garage demolition

Removing a building piece in 1.0.5 refunds its whole purchase price. This replaces the earlier 75% refund, so older advice about always losing a quarter of the price is not the rule documented for 1.0.5. Full-price removal refund.

What happens to vehicles when a garage is demolished?

Patch 1.0.3 says the stored vehicles move to another garage. If there is no other garage, they wait for the next one you build. This is a specific protection for vehicles kept in a demolished garage. Garage vehicle handling.

Version and scope

Checked November 1, 2026: the newest released patch visible in the official feed is 1.0.5, dated October 28. These controls and fixes have not been tested hands-on here; the notes do not specify a confirm-placement binding or establish preservation of stored dust, machine buffers or other contents during relocation or removal.
